  33. Almost.  It actually relates more to the default MAC display,
  34. which is...(drum roll please)...a 640 x 480/square pixel image. 
  35. Yes, higher resolutions are available, yes 640 x 480 cuts off the
  36. sides just a bit on an NTSC monitor (the ones I use anyway, made
  37. by such damnably lightweight manufacturers as SONY, Videotek,
  38. etc.) to have just a bit of a black edge _inside_ the action safe
  39. area, but think about this for a second...you can define your
  40. render pixel aspect, you can define a limited region (640 x 480
  41. can be "cut out" from 720 x 480 rather handily), so if you know
  42. you're going to an AVID, why not just define your render such
  43. that it matches the display initially?
  44.  
  45. Really, the best solution would be true inter-platform
  46. interoperability, but remember also that until recently, AVID was
  47. _not_ intended to be a finishing machine.  Now they are, and they
  48. are also one of the developers of the OMF (Open Media Framework)
  49. standards.  Perhaps NewTek might consider signing on, so they
  50. might have the ability to integrate LightWave into an AVID
  51. environment in the future (obvious marketing strategy if they're
  52. going to be developing for the Mac, as well as the Windows and
  53. SGI versions of Media Suite Pro).
